Airport Shuffle

If you look around an airport, who do you see? The tired businessman who has finally loosened his tie after a long week of meetings. The lifelong friends excited to make memories in Vegas. The family that is excited for their first trip to Disney. The parents who look really excited to take their kids to Disney but are also afraid of taking kids on an airplane. The young adults that just came back from an epic surfing trip. The newlyweds who are so excited to officially start their lives together.

How did you know who these people were? Did you ask them? Or was a simple and quick observation as they hurried by to their terminal. If you're like me, you probably created these stories about people in an airport through observation. You might start up a conversation with them or eavesdrop and get a sense of satisfaction when your observation is correct. Some are pretty obvious. Mickey t-shirts, a backpack full of snacks, coloring books, and an iPad equals Disney. Walking close, hand-holding, and a "Mr. and Mrs." shirt are happy newlyweds. Some aren't so obvious but we still feel pretty confident when we see them. A smartly dressed women with a small rolling luggage, a laptop, and a Starbucks cup in hand look like experts in their field who are sought out and travel to corporate offices.

When Al and I were on our honeymoon, everyone was so nice to us the entire trip and we didn't even wear Mr and Mrs. shirts. They just knew and would ask us if we were on honeymoon. When we went on our first family trip, people would ask if it was Owen's first time on a plane. We traveled a lot when he was young and despite being under 12 months old for a lot of trips I can only recall being asked if it was the first trip once.  Perhaps it was the look of anxiety on my face or the ridiculous amount of food I brought for a baby. I probably looked like I packed more efficiently and looked like I had traveling with babies under control after than. (Side note: I did not have it under control. I learned poker face)

Images are powerful. Imagine showing up with purpose and everyone on a plane can get the essence of who you are before having to say a word. Imagine how useful this would be at a job interview. Maybe you could even attract the right partner. I am not saying that looks are everything nor am I saying that you have to be "on point" all the time. But if we can dress for "the job", we should also be able to look in the mirror and see a confident person looking back at us.  How would that make you feel?

If you sometimes have trouble finding that person in the mirror, please know that you are not alone. It takes time to look inside, find that person, and then manifest them on the outside. Sometimes these self-reflections are easier with a guide asking you about the person you are meant to be rather than the person that you think you have to be. I'd be honored to be your guide. Let's set up a free chat to see if I'd be the right guide for you. https://BookThea.as.me/
